A New Twist on Dear Thyroid Letters

As part of the Schwartz healing process, Kerri and her Sister, Katie often discuss how Katie’s thyroid affected her, which it did, in a life-altering way. Listening helps because it enables Katie to see her disease through Kerri’s eyes. Though it doesn’t eliminate Katie’s guilt (being a guilt junky, this works beautifully for Katie),  she welcomes the opportunity to experience what Ker endured for six plus years.   Learning about the damage Katie’s demonic butterfly caused her, and hearing about some of the thyroid induced statements,  Katie made, and actions,  she took are jarring, to be sure. Having only snippets of memories of that time, her knowledge also helps fill in the gaps.

Kerri and Katie came up with an idea and Liz agreed. (That’s because her family and friends were also subject to some Hurricane Thyreena-force winds for quite a while: a thyroid induced big-ass temper tantrum). So we’re broadening the scope of Dear Thyroid to include letters from friends, family and loved ones to be a means of healing for them as it is for us, the Jacked Thyroidian Club members.

Collectively, we agreed that folks who want to write letters to “Dear (insert name’s) Thyroid would be a welcomed addition to Dear Thyroid.

If you have a love letter or hate letter, check out the submission guidelines and send it over.

PS: We’ve also updated the submission guidelines to add more clarity regarding submissions. DearThyroid is an epistolary series, yes. All women and men who have dealt with, or are dealing with a thyroid issue should absolutely submit their letters to Dear Thyroid. We want you! Nobody is excluded! We will publish all of your letters. Think of Dear Thyroid as a sanctuary to say anything, to heal, and to,  find camaraderie. Are we clear, thylicious brothers-and-sister-in-glands?

Love,

Dear Thyroid
