Dear Rachel’s Thyroid, Goodbye, Please
Dear Rachel’s Malfunctioning Thyroid;
You stole into our lives into the middle of the night, like a thief. You struck silently, creeping up on your victim, thinking she was alone and vulnerable. You planned to take her vitality, her health, her very joy in living. You didn’t expect to find us all, did you?, You didn’t know we were a family and that what happens to one of us, happens to all of us. You didn’t know we would feel every defeat, every pain, and every agonizing difficulty together.
You were an unwelcome guest at holiday dinners. You were a petulant demanding child at special occasions. You insisted on being front and center in every conversation and every decision. We couldn’t make plans without taking you into consideration.
At times you seemed to be winning. You were all we talked about, all we worried about.
But you can’t beat us all. Our collective power is stronger than you because you are all alone. We love her, and you cannot have her. You can not hurt her anymore!, There will be great joy and celebration as we drive you out to be never seen again. You are not welcome here. We are taking back what is ours — the woman we love. We are a family and none of us is alone.
