Dear Immune System, Thanks for kicking my Thyroid’s Ass:

I know you mean well, but Thyroid is not an alien invader that you need to destroy. Thyroid is tired, which is making me tired, and making my doctors think I need to be on psychiatric drugs, and to put the fork down. I think my charts have been branded with some sort of scarlet letter stating that I am making up all my symptoms. Obviously, my doctors don’t understand what is going on. So, please stop being a bully. You have distracted Thyroid so much, that someone has forgotten I am not supposed to have the energy level and metabolism of an overweight cat. I shed like one; that is for sure.

Keep up the good work on protecting me from all the other gross germs in the world. But, please, stop pestering Thyroid because you aren’t just hurting me, you are hurting yourself.

Thanks,

Bonnie

You can read Bonnie’s daily rants at Sushi Thyroid…

  1. Bonnie, thanks for admitting to the world something I hate to say out loud – most of my doctors think my problems are because I’m crazy or overweight or both. I can’t stand it! It’s so humiliating. I gained 30 lbs in 2-3 months and can’t lose a pound to save my effin life. Isn’t it great that we can come to DT and know we’re not alone? I enjoyed your blog and may I recommend Poopourri? It really works well. http://poopourri.com/

    Best wishes for better days.

I think you may be my twin! 🙂 I have the same feeling with doctors and all the psuedo doctors out there – aka friends with good intentions insisting I should try this diet or that….my dear thyroid will be coming soon!

    hehehe…love your blog 🙂

Thanks, all. I have more things I am admitting to on my blog, and will continue to enlighten everyone with on here.

Every day, is a new day, for my body to do something random and odd. This must be like what it was when we were 2 years old and becoming aware of our bodily functions.

Best I can do is laugh at it all…. and I do A LOT of that.

I love this entry. Very clever. I’m so sorry for all the crud you’ve been through. I have Graves’ so I can relate to many of your symptoms. I have not been able to wear closed-toe dress shoes for years (went undiagnosed for 5 yr, have been on meds for the last 2). I was scared to death I had a hangnail & didn’t want to deal with a dr. cutting that off! Here’s to hoping for wellness for all my fellow thyroid sufferers.

Hmm, not sure when I’ll be ready to draft my Dear Thyroid letter. ;-P

Please forgive me but I just need a space to vent and rant without fear of someone calling me psycho or crazy!!! Thanks.
I had a thyroidectomy in 1982…can’t tell you how mant times my meds have changed, the different combos, try this diet, get more sleep, breathe and here I am for the past 9 months and still can’t get my T4 levels balanced. FOrtunately my T3 is good thanks to cytomel. I have weight that won’t budge, hair is falling out, little or no eyebrows, itchy skin, depression, my eyes feel like they are full of sand and half the time I can’t see to focus, and most of the time I either feel like strangling (or killing in anyway!) most people or sitting and crying. My lover thinks there is something wrong with me other than thyroid because of my eratic mood changes. We’ve been together several years and this is the worst it’s been.
I’ve recently changed doctors (3 months ago) and she still can’t get it all balanced and just keeps telling me to be patient and trust her.
It’s driving me crazy. thanks for listening and if you have any suggestions I’m open.

    Hi Lynn,

I also have a lot more mood swings since having thyroid probs. I used to be very mellow. Thankfully, my mood swings are not as extreme as they could be but I know how you feel. You are not alone! 🙂 Hormones are very powerful. Wish we weren’t in this club together but your thyroid sisters (and brothers) are here for you.

    Hugs,
    Pam
