Dear Thyroid,

Why the hell did you pick this time in my life to make your presence known? Not only was I happy and content in my life before you showed up, but I didn’t have to plan my meals, or what the hell I ate around you, and your well being. I want you to know that getting up at 6am, and starving myself for an hour just so the medication I take for you, can work its way through my body and it’s a pain in the ass. Also, I am OVER eliminating foods that I happen to like, just to reduce the swelling that you so often love to cause.

This particular week, you made me cry three times, over the immense amount of weight you have decided to put on my body. Is it NOT important to you that I am finally getting a chance to marry the man of my dreams in November? Is it okay with you that I do not want a goiter in my wedding pictures, or that I can still fit into my dress?? Am I really asking too much here? Also, do you think after 27 years of giving you a great body to live in before you decided to go on strike, could we stop the fucking palpitations for just one day? Lastly, I would like my hair to stay on my head, rather than on the floor, in the sink, in the bath tub, and on every single piece of clothing and furniture I own. What did I ever do to you?

Please be assured, Dear Thyroid, that as many times as you knock me down, and put weight on my body, and make me bald, I will make it through this. Remember that you may control every single fucking hormone in my body, but I WILL fit in my wedding dress in four months, and I will not have a goiter.

Hope you feel like actually working for your space in my body today,

Kristen Duncan.

(Bio) My name is Kristen Duncan and I am a 27 year old female who has been diagnosed with Hashimotos disease for two years now.
