Dearly departed/excised Thyroid:

I am writing you from the caverns of my treatment…

For the some 17 years you served me *well*, you were a great friend– always there to boost my metabolism, keep me warm and sane, and as a boon when I ate too much soy.   I don’t quite know the day you launched your offense at me, because it took a few years of funk and weight gain to realize that you had stabbed me (and my pituitary/hormones) in the back.

Ever since those fateful months of emotional suffering, I launched my war at you.   Unfortunately, you had many many more people on your side, you dirty gland.   My endocrinologist, surgeon, PCP, and family all believed your sick benign appearance.   I had you figured out, though.   At night, when my thyroid peroxidase antibodies fought you, they let me in on your secret: you planned to take over my body!

Those years you spent banking on the trusting doctors and developing further inside of me, I was fighting for your death.

I won, you’re dead now– although a few pieces of your metastasis may still be sitting in me, it is not you, my birth thyroid, my cancerous gland.   Your hard work is being radiated.

I hope you enjoy life in slices at the pathology lab.

Much love and TSH,

Hungryfortsh

i’m wishing those strong irradiating beams find their mark and pulverize what remains of the little F/er-great letter

You knew what was going on and you fought so courageously. Be proud, you are a winner!

    Great Letter, I loved it!

  3. Great letter!

Alas, no matter how we dice it, or slice it, the treacherous and beastly gland has done it damage. — I just hope your slice and my slices don’t meet each other in the pathology lab and create little thycotic nodules. We wouldn’t want that, would we now!

Hope all is well now! All the best finding the right level of medication (that seems to be the biggest problem for me, I am still so darn tired all the time).

    Take care,
    HD in Oregon

HD – You are so funny, you crack me up. Thycotic nodules, only you.

I am sorry that you’re still trying to find, as Lolly says, “The sweet spot” and that you’re dealing with exhaustion. However, I am THRILLED that you are cancer free.

    Yes, she will, Robyn!

You amaze me, you are a wealth of knowledge. You will be a great doctor. As a three year follicular tyhroid cancer survivor, I understand your frustrations with just about everything on your blog. Everything. It is part of us now, like it or not. It is not as simple as many think! I’ll keep following your blog and wish you the absolute best. Please keep sharing 🙂
