Thyflections, Chris Prestano, Thyroid Cancer Patient

Written by Chris P – Thyroid Cancer Patient

Dear Thyroid,

How do I hate thee?,   Let me count the ways.

I hate thee to the flab and breadth and weight

My waistline has reached, and feeling not right,

For loosing hair,  losing,  sleep because I can’t count sheep.

I hate thee to the level of,  everydays

Synthroid,  and water day and night.

I hate thee freely, as I forget what I type.

I hate thee purely, as I am always in a fog.

In my doctor’s office, and in the laboratory

I hate thee with an increasing passion that

Grows with every needle that sticks — I hate thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life!,   –,  And, if the universe chooses,

I shall but hate thee better after your death.

Chris P.

    Nice poem, Chris!

  2. Thanks Chris for this very special anniversary present!

Today, three years ago I heard that dreaded “C-word” diagnosis, (later, within 6 months, it became a chorus of “Cs” – throat cancer, then papillary thyroid cancer, then a merkel cell carcinoma). – But I am here (!), three years later, enjoying your thyflexions!

    Well done! Both of us!
