In “Life Redefined” the second installation of Joanna Isbill’s thyroid cancer column, she tabled a rarely discussed, perhaps slightly taboo issue, yet one that we needed to discuss, and did; “The Cancer Card“.

Each comment was equally fearless and honest. Today’s comment of the day;

That is excellent, I too have used the cancer card to gain a sence of urgency from both my GP’s reception and also my hospitals reception. I seemed to be the only person that thought the word cancer deserved a sense of urgency. Did I feel guilty for using it? Yes, was I impressed with the effect I had from using? Totally!

Kelsey Spellman wrote a gritty, exquisitely revealing letter “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” Kelsey gave us a glimpse of what it feels like to be diagnosed with nodules while in college and how that radically transformed her life and college experience. As a result of Kelsey’s diagnosis, she had a complete thyroidectomy.   If you haven’t read Kelsey’s letter yet, it’s well worth the read. A wonderful dialog resulted from her prose.

Thank you to everyone for lending support, humorously, irreverently and lovingly. Today’s comment of the day;
