Going for the Throat: What Exactly Does Euthyroid Mean, Anyway ?, written by Robyn Davis Hahn, Editor-In-Chief, Health Care, Dear Thyroid, gave us a global overview of what it means to be Euthyroid and what it means to her; a very personal and inspiring Going for the Throat this week.

Many questions were asked and stories shared about each person’s experience and knowledge of Euthyroid. Truly, a WONDERFUL conversation; and if you missed the conversation, check it out right,  here.

I wonder what did you do to get PTO antibodies to disappear, that would be great help for me. I take selenium and zinc along other supplements but I haven’t done yet new blood test to find out how it has been working for me because my doctor is another “if I don’t profit from you then I don’t care” type. I do too get some symptoms every now and then. I was hyper to begin with though, then remission then thought to be moving toward hypo but hormones were in normal range. Been working on diet and taking supplements for a long time. Some days I get hyper symptoms still (especially with eye and heart), some days it feels like hypo. My biggest worry after reaching remission has been PTO antibodies because they have been climbing up 300 counts a year, last one was 900 something;..also had miscarriage which I contribute at least partially to my autoimmunity issues and thyroid troubles. No doctor has wanted to give me any answers or to work towards any answers, even cytogenetics they did on my loss apparently didn’t give any answers though OB/GYN was very surprised but I guess now it is too late; sucks

Today’s Dear Thyroid Letter was written by, Theresa, a patient with Graves disease and a host of other symptoms. Her letter raised a lot of questions about feeling better or worse post diagnosis. “It’s a lot like Panning for Gold” is a wonderful read. In fact, Theresa also shared an additional letter that she wrote to her doctor.

If you missed the conversation, well, you must check it out and share your two cents. Everybody was incredibly supportive, insightful and shared their thoughts regarding diagnosis versus post-diagnosis wellness, among other things.

This might not be the best place for this but I liked what Theresa said and how she’s working on being in control. I’ve been reading these notes for maybe two months now. I’m 52, I’ve been hypo for at least 10 acknowledged years and because of no insurance, or had insurance but only spent money on the deductible for my child, my hypo-ism was kept silent because I didn’t’ put myself first. When I was a teenager, the Dr. told my mom that I was just the upside of normal. No comment. Now I have a new doctor who is working with me, I’ve been at range twice “then fell off” and we are adjusting meds again. I know that what I eat has a big part in how I feel each day. Fiber/Protein seems to be the key for me, but I can only eat so much each day! What I would like to know from others is: I have been unemployed for over a year now. I’m very good at what I do, but how do I tell employers what I’ve done with my time off, when I’ve been healing a very damaged Achilles tendon all the while not feeling happy, because I’m fatigued, emotional, crying at everything? (I went through menopause fast and early) Tell them it’s okay, I feel better when I’m doing something constructive and if I take my vitamins too?

Hi Cathy, I am the same as you, what I eat every day has a huge impact on the way I feel. I know after keeping a jounal, glueten is a major negative in my diet. AS to being out of the work force for a year, I really don’t think it is anyone’s business, what you did. You took a year off because you deserved it!, you did some research, travelling etc!the employer does not need to know on what and why. The bottom line is you are willing and eager to work again. If you are qualified for the job, then there is no reason why they shouldn’t employ you. Keep your personal information to yourself, do not give them any reason to doubt your abilities, because if they can they will.Believe in yourself and the rest will fall into place, I have noticed with myself and others with hypo, that it makes us feel very insecure, because we are never sure as to how we are going to feel tomorrow, but I am sure that you are very much like all of us with thyroid conditions, we may feel like crap, but it doesn’t stop us delivering, whether that be at home, work, or school. Good luck Cathy Believe!!
