Nothing Was Wrong, our Dear Thyroid Letter of the day, written by Erika Abbott if you haven’t read her letter, please do, and connect with her. Here’s a snippet about Erika: I’m 27 and just getting my life started. I have just earned my first college degree. I have just had my first baby. And I have just been told that I had cancer. I’m not ready for this! I wanted to share why I had my thyroid removed, as I hope that it will help me reach out and meet others with similar stories.

Thank you to everyone for lending so much support to Erika today, and sharing your stories with her. Mostly, your encouragement was inspiring. Love you, Thyamily.

Erika,

Your words have touched me as I have gone through MUCH of the same thing. The whole reason I ever went to an endocrinologist was because I was unable to get pregnant. Long story short, I had a multiple cysts in my neck on my thyroid. Ultimately I had a 6cm cyst on the right side — which had been drained MULTIPLE times and had to come out. The surgeon very casually told me I had cancer but not to worry about it, and he went on his way. REALLY?

That was 7 years ago, and I have been fighting ever since; and so will you. You have a million supporters that will help you through this difficult time — and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I assure you.

Good luck and I hope we hear from you again on how you have kicked thyroid cancer’s ass — and are healthy and happy.

Much love,

Stephanie

Thyme For Some Literary Healing, And A Few Qs, Part IV, Thyroidectomy or not, one of the question was where you envision your thyroid to be, and what you envision your thyroid doing. The visual imagery was spectacular. The stories were riveting.   Additionally, thyroid patients wrote about what their thyroids have stolen from them, and given to them. Honestly, the comments/stories are a must read. Thank you to everyone for participating. Keep writing. Keep connecting. You bring us together and remind us that we’re in this together.

  1. If you’ve had a thyroidectomy, do you think about where your thyroid is, and imagine a separate life for it? If so, tell us about the life you’ve imagined your thyroid leading.

I think about it all the time and wonder what havoc it is reeking now, is it enjoying the separation because I’m certainly not. Is it getting a sun tan and plenty of VitD because I’m not, I imagine my thyroid living a great life watching me suffer and saying hahaha you fucking sucker thought you’d get rid of me and that would be that, well have I got news for you nothing can ever take my place, my place now is south Africa on safari cause you know I love to shoot crap. I’d send you a post card but don’t think you’d appreciate it somehow.

  1. If you haven’t had a thyroidectomy, and you have a thyroid disorder or thyroid cancer, do you imagine your thyroid having a ‘secret life’? If so, tell us about that life.

Even though I don’t have my thyroid it’s like losing a leg or arm you still want to scratch that foot because it’s itchy I’m itching to get hold of that little bugger and knock some sense into it but as it’s leading a secret life and hasn’t told me really were it is I have to keep on scratching that leg or arm and just hope It’s not scabies.

  1. What has your thyroid stolen from you?

My energy my hair my clear eyes, my lovely figure, my memory.

  1. What has your thyroid given you?

Fucking hairs on my Chinnny chin chin. I swear there pubes

Aside: Please continue supporting,  Dr. Sarah Myhill, to end the witch hunt for this fine doctor in the UK.

Hi there, I’ve been struggling with thyroid problems for a while now around 5 to 6 years, Since I was 16. I just recently became sick and was hospitalized for a while due to lung issues. While I was in the hospital they did many many tests and could not understand why I was having breathing problems, but they did find that my thyroid was wayyyyy out of wack, due to miss readingd on blood tests. Anyways long story short, I was wondering if anyone else has had any lung issues, caused by their thyroid. My doctors are stumped as to what’s causing this issue. Just wondering if it sounds fimaliar to anyone else….thanks, 🙂 Goodluck everyone 🙂
