You Mess With Me, The Whole Family Comes For You

Dorienne’s story is as unique as each of our stories, of course. Though, Dorienne, unlike most patients that I, Katie, have connected with, has not seen a family ravaged by thyroid cancer as Dorienne’s. ,  If you haven’t read her Dear Thyroid Letter, please do. A very interesting, inspiring read; Dorienne has turned her harrowing cancer saga into a mission of advocacy and awareness.

Hello Dori!

I want you to know, we are all brought on this earth to do something, your something is hold the bond of strength and family security. After my Hypo was dx at 21, almost all of the women in my family were diagnosed also, but it was all over the place! Keep the strength, we have a strong old soul for a reason, to keep others pumping!!! At least we have our MINDS!

Increasing Levels of Free Thyroxine as a Risk Factor for a First Venous Thrombosis: A Case Control Study

Lolly, I am so HAPPY you are here to tell this tale. This is certainly something I would never know or think could be related to thyroid disease. It seems the majority of doctors don’t even consider the immune system involvement and they only treat the thyroid levels. What a horrible experience and now you must worry about it happening again, even though you are on a blood thinner. I’m sure I would.

The study says — “Our data suggest increasing levels of free thyroxine to be a risk factor for venous thrombosis, and may have implications for both the prevention and management of this disease… — Does this mean people with hyperthyroidism are at risk and not people with hypo?

I have been told recently I am at high risk right now for sudden death and heart attack because of the inflammation in my body. I never would have known had I not met my now current doctor but my family probably would have found out after they did an autopsy on me. This is the result of not being diagnosed many years ago, and I am sure what happened to you did not happen overnight either, and is likely also the result of not being diagnosed earlier. These things occur over time.
