Comments of the day celebrate the outspokenness of our community, and remind us that we are less alone. When we (I know, I sound like a broken record) share our stories with each other, in letters, in comments, in Literary healings, in everything we do, we learn more about our diseases and each other. Speaking for myself, when each of you share bits and pieces of how you’ve managed your diseases or suffered cruelly at the hands of doctors or the disease itself, I learn more about you and what you’ve been through. I, like all of us, empathize—and, especially many of us have sadly journeyed a similar path.

Thank you– for reading and submitting Dear Thyroid Letters – for reading and connecting with our thylicious columnists, and for participating in all of the thyroid literary glandly goodness on Dear Thyroid. We love you and appreciate you.

Glanditude – Love, Hate, Love, Hate… Love Christina’s Dear Thyroid Letter of the day – and it was glandarific, lemme tell ya. So many patients shared their stories with Christina and were appreciative of the thyinspiration. An excerpt from Christina’s letter: “You brought so many amazing, inspiring people in my life I would never have meet while being my old self. Thank you for what you did to me! You changed my life, and even though I still have to deal with a lot of awful symptoms, I would not want to go back to my old life.” If you missed it, please stop by and take a peek.

I love your story! Thank you for sharing it. It’s so encouraging to read that something good can come out of this enervating mess!

Fat Thigh-roid Woes: COBRA always has and always will be A SNAKE. Nicole Wells, author of “Fat Thigh-roid Woes” delivered one hell of an irreverent, clever, brutally honest column. She discussed insurance (lack thereof), and doctors; oh doctors, and how incapable some are of educating us about our disease.  An excerpt from Nicole’s column “I was mostly skeptical of the treatments because when I asked “what causes Graves Disease?” the doctors would shrug. How can I move forward with permanent treatment, when doctors don’t know what causes Graves?  How dare they speak to me so confidently when they themselves don’t have an answer to the actual problem?  My thyroid isn’t the issue, it’s my stupid immune system” Again, if you missed it, please check it out! You will love it. We laughed. We cried. We related to each other on a very person (financial/insurance) level, and so much more.

Today’s comment…

Quin Browne says:

You gave me the best laugh I’ve ever had regarding our disease.

Thanks.

PS I tell people my full neck scar came about because I didn’t pay back Jimmy the Snake for money owed.
