Today was a wonderful day. One of our newest thyrellas, recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism submitted a Dear Thyroid Letter. We’re so proud of her. As we all know, writing to our disease or to our host from our thyroids, is challenging. She took it on with gusto, humor and candor. Chronic Snarkopolist challenged us to seek beauty in Chronic Illness. By sharing her experiences and posing questions to our community, she’s getting us thinking and talking – such a gift.

You’re all amazing and wonderful; the embodiment of glanditude! You inspire me every single day, to be the best that I can be. You remind me that regardless of what the day brings, I have a thyamily right here to catch me when I fall. Not one missive goes unanswered. We post, you respond. You post, you respond. I tell ya, it brings a tear to my eye and joy to my heart.

I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER POSSIBLY KNOW.

The Price Of Admission On The Hyperthyroid Train Is…, Written by Amanda.

Excerpt: “Yay! You are fun to mess with. Silly you, think you can beat the brain fog with note taking, pop-up reminders and cell phone alarms? Whatever. The minute you walk down the hall, you will forget where you were going…and possibly forget to come back.”

“Remember yesterday? When you sat in your office wondering if you could wheel down the hall to the supply closet in your office chair?”

I hear you on this one. I feel this way when I’m hypo or hyper. If I’m hypo, I don’t have the energy for anything, and when I’m hyper, I get short of breath and sweaty so easily. Hang in there, and make it to your appointment! It will get better.

Chronic Snarkopolist: Finding Beauty In Chronic Illness… The Snarkopolist Way, written by Melissa Travis.

Excerpt: “I’m struggling right now to make sense of being sick. Some days it goes like that. This week has been like that even more. The people I love most in all the world including my father are terribly ill.  Even my beloved doggie is now sick.  And I’m left with my beautiful chronically ill friends to bolster me and I them. We are each other’s rocks.”

Probably one of the most amazing things I’ve read in a long, LONG time. I don’t know you but I want to hug you and Inga, and the GI doc. Thank you so very much for sharing yourself here. I appreciate it, and you are in my thoughts. I wish you the very best.

Today and tomorrow are the last days to submit your butterfly paragraphs for eligibility to win an original painting by Allyson Averell. Check out the painting you can win right here. We want a simple paragraph about what butterflies mean to you since you’ve been diagnosed with thyroid disease or thyroid cancer. Have they taken on new meaning? Do you love them? Do you abhor them? Are you conflicted? Whatever you feel, write it and send it to us.

I loved reading this, it mad me think how lucky I am to have this community, it does catch you when you fall, trying to deal with this and what it does to you and family and friends is hard. Then you read what has been written by everyone who is going through and has gone through all that you have. There hearts and souls bared, there frustrations and fears. The smile or laugh you get while reading, you see yourself. The tears for pain when you see that someone is having so many problems! Then the post and comments are simply amazing! The caring of people you don’t know, the new friends you have made along the way. How lucky I am to have found all of you, so thank you for the tears, smiles and laughter! Thank you for the care enough to write the letters and putting into words some of the things I have felt, thank you for letting myself and others see we are not alone! There is some much to thank you for and not enough paper in the world to write it on! Keep sharing and caring it does all of us good, it opens me up to more knowledge and it makes me think of what you and I are going though as a community! How truely lucky I am to have gained all of you!
