Dear Thyroid,

Well, it looks like my letter from July 1 got through to you. Or, rather, didn’t get through to you – but got through to something else. Now not only do I seem to have hypothyroidism, but you are in cahoots with…my ovaries?

-Adrienne

Writer’s note: this is my way of following up to everyone’s comments. Short and simple: my new endocrinologist is testing me to see if I have PCOS as well. I’m getting a second opinion next month – I had scheduled the appointment so far in advance that I found a different doctor but am not canceling the appointment at this rate.

  1. A sad “welcome to the club” from a Hashi/PCOS/Insulin Resistant collector of insane medical debt due to no one knowing what it all was.

Are you looking for a second opinion that it is or isn’t PCOS. I was relieved when I was told it was that and he put me on Metformin- I have lost 20 lbs after gaining 70 (20 was after my thyroid was “regulated”). I actually feel much better, too.

welcome to the world of autoimmunity-ain’t it a bitch??? just found out my mom had ” a little thyroid problem when I was younger”. well, Mom, why did they stop your meds? “I don’t know, I guess it went away!” Now she has a horrid case of sjogren’s (sp?) disease -another link on the autoimmune food chain- and all her teeth are rotting bcuz of lack of saliva & her eyes don’t produce tears -can’t wait for my 84th yr. i think i’ll take up smoking when I’m 80

Wonder world of thyroid, that simple little normal disease, yah right! Thyroid failure/hashimotos/ auto-immune disease that mess with your organs and give you depression, anixety, panic attacks, brain Fog, memory problems, hot and cold, mess with the your harmones, give you the shakes and on and on and on! You can’t just take calicum with it or anything else, wait an hour here or 2 or 3 or 4 or can take something else at all because of side effect and all the other stuff we go through. I didn’t want to sign up to become a walking dictionary on this normal disease but I had too. Ok that feels better! So sorry that there are so many of us who are part of this club. My hope is that you get good sound medical advice and answers, Good Lord knows we need them! Hang in there and let’s us know what happens!

Lisa , remember when I said “Dear G**” and i meant to say “Dear Dog”? I’m sure you meant Good Gourd instead of God L*** . There DT, I clarified Lisa’s point for you…

Wisdom from a very famous philospher by the name of Thyfucius:

    So true.

P.S.: BTW – Thyfucius lived in the period from about 7:30 AM (or was it AD? – don’t remember) until about 2:10 PM, that is when he needed his daily nap because of his glandular imbalance. 😉

    Hey Adrienne,

I wanted to wish you good luck with your tests and the new endo. I also wanted to let you know that I wrote a column on PCOS a while back that should explain a lot, but it also features some valuable links at the end that should come in handy if you want to find out more: http://dearthyroid.org/flying-with-broken-wings-help-i%E2%80%99m-turning-into-a-man/

In addition, guest blogger Sara Gottfried has also touched on PCOS in some of her columns, specifically this one:

Wishing you the best possible outcome!

    Love,

    Sarah
