In case you missed Allyson Averell’s face painting yesterday and post regarding her disease, we wanted to make sure that you saw it today. The below are Allyson’s words. She is determined like all of us, to change the face of thyroid disease and thyroid cancer. As an artist, she painted her anger, plastering it on her face, neck and upper torso, to send a clear message…

“I painted this on myself last night because the other day I got fed up with people only seeing my illness when they look at me. Why have you gained so much weight? Why is your face breaking out so bad? Why are you so tired all of the time? Why are you in such a bad mood? Trust me, I deal with these symptoms on an everyday basis. I do not need any reminding. Maybe, just maybe, if there was much more awareness out there, there would not be so many questions. Thyroidism comes in many shapes and sizes, but there is one common denomitor that we all share. Every single day we all fight a physical, mental, and emotional battle with ourselves. So through this trying time lets support each other, for we truly are the only ones who understand how we feel. And most importantly, we must raise up together to make ourselves known.

Allyson awesome face painting and the reasoning behind it.

Beautiful and haunting image…….what is this world doing to us, the senitive creatures we are. Floating thru days of endless awareness that something is amiss.
Trying to blend into the rest of our world without standing out and being examined. Camouflaged by our own defences real or imagined. Speaking to others of this internal battle within ourselves. Breathtaking bewildering butterflies trapped in the web of a spider unable to flutter to freedom and beyond. Hold tight dear entrantress of dark mysteries. Unfold these wings and do fly free my dear one….

This is beautiful! I feel the same way, especially when my scar is bright red and everyone stares at it.
