Never
eg~nore the needs of  someone dear,
very important that one can be there,
even when busy,
… or so we think,
because nothing is ever so precious,
as these bonds we make.
The world may go on circling round,
but one life is valuable when they are down.
Reason? ~you ask,
I’ll tell you now,
there’s you,
and there’s me,
but there is something else……
it’s that wonderful “thing” that’s in~between.

Thank you Amanda, but I hope they change this image. I don’t think a woman with a gun is what would be appropriate for this message of love and compassion.
You always find a kind word.

  3. Barbara Leigh says:

Linny sweetheart, what you wrote is BEAUTIFUL and so passes any picture DT could post. So, please do not fret, your message got out and as always the love in your heart for life, your family and your fellow man just shines through.
    Love you,
    Bara

Thank you DT for changing the picture. I haven’t a problem with humor but I think a gun shows so many the wrong message.
With emotions high and people depressed I fear the wrong connection to our issues.
    A picture speaks a thousand words…..
healing ourselves thru words as well pictures could be a bonus.
    Why not have them connect?

  5. If anyone has questions as to why we choose the images we do, please read this interview on ABOUT.COM: http://thyroid.about.com/od/blogs/a/dear-thyroid.htm. Also, kindly refer to our ABOUT US page: http://dearthyroid.org/about/

Pairing each author’s literary work with iconic images of healthy women and men is not done without a purpose. Rather, there is a very specific reason why we have made this choice. It has nothing to do with humor and everything to do with awareness.

Each literary work is a brutally honest account of their experience of their disease, in their words.

    Thanks.
    DT

The article on About.com is the best, really. I have read and re-read it several times. Sometimes when I feel like this “thyroid” stuff is too much and I want to run away, I poke back there and read the article again. It recharges me. The passion behind this sight is amazing, I wish everyone could feel it, and many many many of us do.

Personally I love the images. They bring “shy, reserved, Amanda” out of her shell. I showed my daughter my “icon” that I use here and on Facebook and she was shocked, shocked I tell you. She said “MOM>>> Your boobies show on that, pick another one”. I laughed, I chose the icon because she is a knitter and she has the best shade of green yarn ever! I didn’t even notice the boobs hanging out a bit. “She” represents me. I understand that the random item in some of the pictures here can be offensive to some, each for their own reasons. But the statement to me is clear, they represent us. Overall, the message they give is strength.

I do “turn off” images here when I am at work, because they log internet usage and images. After explaining this to our young, freckle face IT guy… he and I decided it would be best to disable loading images.

Long winded, I am just saying I understand Linny’s concern, and equally understand the reasoning for images. Thank you DT for changing the image and pointing out the wonderful article on About.com.

      Amanda

I went back and read the message about “the pin ups”.
I do agree that is a powerful point to make and I see the intent.
I guess I would also like to say my only problem was with the “gun”.
The gun is such a different kind of message, I think, now especially with all the stories in the news.
Teachers have to worry, parents have to worry, some neighbourhoods have to worry. Road rage, robbery, war, not ignoring self inflicted worry. To name but A FEW!

So, yes, I do support the idea itself with the pinups, just not the reminder of weapons which are already even used as TOYS? ~!
Thanks for understanding if you do.

    Linny,
When I saw your Pin Up before reading your poem. I saw the happiness & “Equality” in the woman, the old car of the late 60’s & the mini skirt called out to me a thankfulness that I was born during the radical time chosen for people like me & with so many role models of strong women who have fought the battles we will never have to face because of Them ! She was not using that gun to “Defend” herself, but to shoot Skeet. They are clay pigeons used for the skill of sharpshooting, and she was enjoying herself. I have never touched a gun & feel the same way as you about crime. But I just wanted you to know, that as soon as I read your entry all I could think was that the editors must have believed you hit your Mark or Bulls’Eye, with your lovely writing & Pure intentions ! I respect your feelings immensely, but I just wanted you to know my interpretation was so POSITIVE !
    Love,
    Judanna

  8. Linny says:

    Judanna,
Thank you so much for letting me know your feelings. I try to write the words to match the emotions I feel. It helps me to open up and express these emotions so I don’t carry them like weights of fustrations. I have always been so sentitive, but being without a thyroid, I’ve realized so many things more about feelings. Often these emotions are so raw and out there….I have been told I get the face of a deer caught in headlights.
But maybe, just maybe I can get someone to think on this level of awareness. These real people things. Oh if people could only know how much of life in the inbetweens gets pass us. Holding a “shared” passage of connection with another for most invisible.
Can’t others see how much more we, they are in the exchange of care, love, breathing that they could never find alone.
    Thank you, Linny
