Acrostic Poem Using the word: IGNORANCE by Keira
I desperately want to be joyful and surrender to the promise of all the hope a new year can bring.
Going to go Gluten-Free!
Nothing is going to stop me from loosing weight and securing my health.
Only You.
Rarely have I doubted myself.
And yet:
Nerves flare, angst rises, depression looms, sleep evades, sweat pours as I walk on glass to maintain the status quo for you and the few that have stood by. Living to appease
Causes doubt; casts fear; creates arguments with those who share space, but not understanding…until darkness and rage suffocates…the little that remains of me.
E voiding “friends”; avoiding family; orchestrating a small, sacred, hidden space to exist, breathe, think, feel—alone— without explanation, without judgment, in silence…and, in peace.

Excellent. I too would love to promise myself a bunch of “new” things for the new year… but I know who I am up against. I guess we just have to be stronger, but dang it sucks.

Loved your poem and completely understand the “status quo” part! I was recovering from surgeries for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we missed all the “see and be seen parties” ! My husband asked where “all my friends” have been through this cancer… I told him they were probably never my friends to begin with? The ones that are still here are REAL friends and will adapt to my ever-changing life. If friends/family are uncomfortable with your health problems, that is their problem not yours. This is hard enough without worrying about what other people think of us! I’m approaching this year as a “reinvention”, no regrets 😀

I got the chills when I read this, Keira. Unfortunately, I fear that too many of us can relate to this. That said, I’m grateful that those that do, do not feel alone.
