Dear Endocrinologist

Once again I will be visiting you today. Me and my notebook with all my questions and fears.

I will be honest, Dr., I am pretty done. And tired. Always tired. I want you to hear me so badly.

When I tell you the things that are happening now; the atrial fibrillation, the sleep apnea, I am not asking you to “fix” them. I am trying to get you to look at me as a whole patient. Not just a piece of paper in your hand. I am more than the TSH you are so fond of. Treat me as a person with multiple symptoms that are worsening.

I am a mom and gramma to people who love and need me; yet have given up on ever getting me back.

Please, Please, Please look me in the face.

SEE me.

Talk to me and most of all HEAR me.

Judy

Good luck today seeing the Dr. I HEAR you. And agree completely. Thank you for reminding me that I am not the only one that feels like my Dr. isn’t listening to me and has given up on me.

    Judy,
Great letter. I hope the endo listened and HEARD you.

wow. what a powerful letter. it really is so rare that my doctors, anyway, look at me as a whole person. I want to print this and read it to my endo when I see her Thursday. I love this. thank you for writing it.

    Amy

I have an appt. with my Endo tomorrow. I think I will print this out and hand it to him. Maybe then he will understand that these problems did not occur before, but they happen now and I just want some direction. Give me more meds, tell me what vitamins I need now that Mr. thyroid is gone! Just pick up a finger and point me in the right direction so I can feel somewhat normal again!

  5. Weemah says:

Well someone didn’t call to have me come in ahead of time for blood work. so now I go back February 7th.
On the bright side it will give me more time to do a little more fine tuning of my questions. and the sleep study should be back.

Judy, I hope your doctor not only listed to you but was willing to look at things as a whole. Please don’t ever give up on you! If this doctor won’t listen, please try to find one that will, one that knows there is more than the “TSH”. You are worth it! I had many symptoms they tried to treat separately at first and only looked at TSH, such as sleep apnea, neuropathy, fibromyalgia, muscle weakness, painful trigger points from head to toe, etc., etc., etc. All of which have improved greatly, and many of which are gone, with proper thyroid hormone treatment and other deficiencies addressed often associated with thyroid disease. We should not settle. It’s our life!

Keep fighting the good fight. Let me tell you if a doctor felt our symptoms, the world would change.

    • Barbara says:

I went to so many doctors and nobody seemed to care about how I felt. Maybe we should look for doctors who have the disease themselves…
