Dear Kelsey’s Thyroid,
I’m sick and tired of you controlling my life. Let me live one day without wanting to sleep every minute I’m awake. One day. I would be so grateful. But no, you cannot do that for me, ever. So tomorrow I gotta get up all super extra early to drive to the hospital with my momma. Yep, we’re through. I don’t want you anymore. I don’t need you anymore. You messed up your chance with me. Now you’re being replaced, by a thing called Synthroid. Yeah. He’s a lot better than you are. Things may be a little shaky for us at first, but after we get through that, I’m gonna be way happier than I ever was with you. If only it could’ve worked…

Sending you good thoughts for your surgery Kelsey. There is hope! I have been hyper for five months due to Hashitoxicosis or more than likely overdosing on hormone (be careful with that). It has been a really tough journey, but I am slowly but surely getting better and you will too!! Believe it!! I have to tell myself that everyday and take note when a symptom seems a little less than the day before and rejoice in that. Keeping a positive attitude and getting back up when I fall down and want to give up has helped me tremendously. That is the one thing we can control in going through illness is our attitudes and keeping hope in our hearts! It is really hard but does help! God Bless You!

My 14 year old daughter has elevated T4 She had additional lab work done last Friday to check antibodies. But her endocrinologist seemed pretty confident it is graves disease. We should hear today about the results.
The doctor made it seem the best option for treatment was radioactive iodine ablation. Was this suggested for your daughter?
What treatment was recommended? I would like to go for a second opinion but need to do that quickly it seems. My daughter had a history of cardiac problems as an infant and has open heart surgery. So the cardiac implications are especially scary.
Thanks for any thoughts or sharing your experiences.
Good luck tomorrow Kelsey. I have had Graves disease for 7 going on 8 years now… I got it when I was 15 it is a real downer. Let me know how the surgery goes because I have been researching options. Happy thoughts and prayers from me to you.
Good luck with the surgery! Once you go on Synthroid, don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel better right away. It can take time for the dosage to be set correctly. Take care!

` haaey (: i’m 15 turning 16 and i was diagnosed with graves when i was 14 turning 15 wich was a little over a year ago. It makes life difficult, i’m actually seeing someone to deal with all the stress and the mood swings. I also have the puffy eyes so i get asked by people at school if i’m on drugs and stuff. Like it’s hard and it hurts and sometimes i feel like why me? but when i read stuff like this, i don’t feel so alone cus there are other people out there with what i have. I’m glad your surgery went well, and i hope goes all good with everything <3. xoxo.
Stay strong Kelsey, and everyone else! Was diagnosed with Graves a few months before my 16th birthday, and honestly thought my life was over. Lucked out because the meds worked well, but still normal life just isn’t for us I guess. But now I’m 22, married, graduated, and closer to happiness and healthiness than ever. We’re stronger for this, never forget that! Good luck!
