“Staying positive truly helps”

These four words have helped to reshape my life because I’ve had Graves disease for over 8 yrs., and also been through Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, breast cancer, skin cancer & currently have cancer again, among other health issues in an 11 yr. period. And it may surprise you when I say that I feel the thyroid problems have been the worst. So don’t think you’re alone if you feel you’re at your wits end. I have, and at times still do think woe is me, but I try my best to stay positive because I know the negative thinking will only make me feel worse.

I’m not Superwoman my any means. I’m a very emotional woman, I wear my feelings on my sleeve..so much so that I won’t even pick up the phone call of a friend if I feel I’m in a crazy, hormonal mood, and all I’m going to do is cry through the conversation. So, I’m not saying that staying positive is simple or easy. When I got the news of my Graves disease, I did feel sorry for myself…cried, stressed & wondered if I would ever feel “normal” again. But as crazy as life is these days, what is normal? Everyone has some kind of battle they’re fighting. So I tried to think positive and move on from there.

I think thyroid disease has been tougher because with the cancers, I was diagnosed, treated & then it was behind me. Even if it was only temporarily behind me, I still had years in-between with no issues. But thyroid problems…they never seem to go away. Mine has been a roller-coaster ride, constantly going up & down over the years…and many days I wish the ride would just stop and let me off…LOL!

But it’s not a ride…it’s called life. So we have to think positive, gain all the knowledge we can about our illness, use that knowledge to know what we have to do…what works best for each of us, along with the Drs., to enjoy a better quality of life. No matter how crazy, stressed, emotional, & out-of-whack our thyroid issues make us feel, we have to stay positive…because my other motto for many years has been ‘things can always be worse’…and we know they can. But since that was five words, I didn’t use it..LOL!

So, while we can’t always fix everything and make our bodies feel completely normal, we can move on and do the best we can do, and staying positive truly helps!

Nicely said. Good for you for being positive. I wish you all the best!

  2. Rhonda says:

You certainly have had your share. I didn’t realize that you have been thru so much in your lifetime. It certainly seems like you do live up to your 4 words. I didn’t know you entered in the contest, but hoping you win. Keeping you in my prayers.

I don’t always live up to these 4 words Rhonda, but tryin my best. Today I could’ve stayed in bed all day, but of course, didn’t. Things to be done, so get motivated..and in between things, talked to people like my brother who boosted me forward in my down mood. We’re all gonna be down at some time, but just gotta keep thinkin positive and being thankful for great friends & family that make it all worthwhile. Some days I give the boost, others days I need it 🙂 You know what I mean ‘cuz we all take turns ‘payin it forward’…

It’s not easy lving up to those 4 words, I admore your strength going through what you have and still trying to be positive about life..good luck you got a vote from me. BTW I have Graves disease dtoo and ouit of everything it’s been the worse things from eand still is.

    • Terry says:

Thank you Lolly! It’s not easy, but I guess we all know it doesn’t get easier as we get older, but we should get wiser, right? So I’m wise enough to know that you can’t give up..just look for the ‘sunny side’ as much as possible! And it really makes me feel better when I can help other people. We’re all a little afraid of the unknown, so I share my experiences to help others know what I maybe found out the hard way and after many ups & downs. I love find the littlest tidbit of info on a bad day that helps to turn my mood right around! Thyroid issues can be tough, but we’re tougher!!!! Take care Lolly :)))
