Where did the time go?!

First of all, I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year!  Here it is almost the end of February and I’m just now wishing ya’ll a happy new year, what the hoohay?!? If you think that’s behind, I really do not know where my time went since Thanksgiving.  From then ‘til now has been a big blur.  Any of you feel the same?

It is very demanding for the healthy folks out there, so imagine what it is like for those of us in chronic pain and dealing with health issues.  You know what I’m talking about, don’t you?  The holidays take so much out of us and we haven’t that much in us to give out, but we dig way down deep to muster all we have to endure in order to share the holidays with all those that we hold dear.  I honestly think I am just now recovering from all that.

Time just ticks on whether we are paying attention or not.  No matter what is happening in life, the days turn into nights and more days.  Until science can catch up, so that we can go back in time to recapture lost hours, we must continue forth to make the most out of what hours and days we have ahead of us.  One thing I have learned along the way is to not feel distraught over time missed due to feeling horribly sick.  Don’t feel ashamed. Just as healthy people get knocked down with the flu we get knocked down by other health issues.  That’s exactly what I say to people as well.  I tell them, “You know how horrible you felt when you had that cold or flu and needed to rest….”  Since I have been sick for quite a few years now, most of family and friends kind of know what I mean when I say, today I need to go into the rabbit hole.

What has this New Year brought you?  Are you like me and just now catching up to February?

This is Ann Glanders signing out and saying, “wishing everyone more days that are better than not”.

I haven’t yet learned how to not beat myself up over things I’ve missed due to feeling bad (I have Hashimoto’s, but I take medication, so that should make me feel “normal”, right??). I feel so guilty for breaking social engagements over the years, and I have become more withdrawn and socially anxious as a result. 🙁

  2. Elissa,
I hear ya loud & clear. From what I have seen over the years it really seems that what you are going through is very normal and might be considered the 1st steps to self recovery. Everyone can relate to beating ourselves up, feeling guilty, anxiety and total isolation. Give yourself time for I promise you will get through these steps and find a way to live as a happy you ; ) Thank you so very much for responding to the column!
