its not your fault

Dear Thyroid….

It’s not your fault, dude….

I was pretty sure we were invincible. I’ve ran you guys pretty hard all my life. Basketball, tennis, running, daily yoga sessions, swimming, working out, playing guitar, partying, chasing girls, 7 days a week, never taking a break. I’m surprised we made it to 50 without a problem and maybe we had a problem and I just didn’t pay attention to it, but we got one now and it’s got my undivided attention.

It’s got a name, I guess.

It’s called Hashimoto’s and the most current mainstream belief is allegedly it’s your brothers over in the department of defense mistaking you for an intruder and trying to kill you, but that’s only one of many theories and nobody really can say what causes it and how to treat it. Although a lot of people certainly think they know.

I kind of tend to think that I probably over worked you and our adrenal glands for a long time and you guys tried to keep up but in the end the TSH kept rising causing lots of inflammation for you and I think you started leaking some TPO and hydrogen peroxide, and our immune guys got sent over to clean it up and we’ve got a big mess on our hands.

Anyway…

I just wanted to let you know that no matter what caused it that I don’t blame you…you have served me well and I also want you to know that I am learning all about you guys.. T3, T4, TSH, RT3, FT3, FT4, glucose LDL, TPO, iron, zinc, copper, cortisol ect … so I can make the best decisions possible for us.

You also need to know, I refuse to let this slow me down. If I lose you along the way, so be it. I will remember you as a great warrior.

So just sit back and take it easy for a bit while I figure out how we are going to deal with this shit.

All the best
Paul

Sometimes educating yourself is all you can do, Paul, but while also not letting things freak you out. Our bodies are constantly talking to us, sometimes we just have to listen better. That way we can respond rather than react to our physical ailments. Sometimes the mere reaction to knowing there is a problem throws us off the tracks. Keep things under control and know that because we are alive there is a lot to live for.
