Every one of the submissions for the I Heart Guts – Win A Thyroid Plushie Contest was spectacular, absolutely flawless. We loved them all; cried and laughed with you, and felt your courage through your fingertips.

We are so proud of each of you for having the strength to share a bit about your thyroid story with us.

You have one week (11/19) to vote for your favorite acrostic poem. Please cast your vote in comments for one of these outstanding and brave poems.

Despite

Confusion,

Fatigue,

Dizziness,

I Still Sing!

Elizabeth St Hilaire

The truth is thyroid you tested me with

Hospitals, surgeries, medication and

You may have won the battle but I WON the war and on my

Roughest days I find strength to live with

Optimism that I will be able to help others that

Inspire me with their inspiration to live and

Defeat THYROID CANCER!

Sam

Trembling hands fan

Hellfire flashes as I

Yawn, is it nap time?

Rage comes and goes, fleeting

Obscure thoughts I can’t remember

Dishes crowd the sink for another day.

Again, a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who participated. I believe that when we share our stories with each other, we learn more about ourselves and our diseases. We deepen the bonds within our community.

Everyone is a winner in our book!

    Definitely Gloria.

We know all the other symptoms and experiences behind each of those words and the triumph over them all (especially) expressed by “sing”.

Nicely done all! We’re right there with ya. :-)))

Thanks Laura! You gave me a smile by voting for me! Yes, I still sing having been a professional for so many years. When the Dr. said he’d have to operate, the first thing I told him was, “Don’t you dare touch my vocal cords!” He was a great surgeon, and after a couple of months of hoarseness, I was able to sing again! I sing for rest homes and community events now. It is so rewarding! I wish you peace on your thyroid “new normal” life.Hugs.

Back atcha! I used to sing pro and had the *same* reaction–despite there being a question of cancer. I was all, “RAI whatevs, just please do not nick the vocal nerve!” I’m 6 weeks > surgery and did some of Handel’s “Rejoyce” today about the house–I just have to tuck the chin in a bit to get an open throat. Keep singing girl and thanks for the totally relatable poem!!! Thyroid scar bump! 🙂
