Join An Offline Thyroid Support Group
Offline support – especially for patients with thyroid diseases and thyroid cancers is incredibly powerful. Online support is fantastic. That said, the opportunity to sit across from someone who has walked your mile or a similar mile affords us the opportunity to exhale and speak in shorthand. This is a gift, especially since we closet ourselves or rarely discuss our disease – not all of us, but a high percentage of us do. Please, between the Q & A or stupid questions, or whatever, we become so frustrated, we just shut down. This is un-festive.
Dear Thyroid has been doing meet-ups for a while now. We’ve just gravitated, thanks to Kerri Schwartz, into monthly support groups. Once a month it’s our time to get together with other thyroid patients and let it all hang out, and for additional support.
Please list your city. Please add your name in the hat. Email us with your city, preferred public venue and a few times, so we can connect you with other thyroid patients. There are lots of folks in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Ohio (Columbus), Tennessee, Los Angeles, and other places. Email us. Below are the three dates for September, October and November.
- September 19
- October 17
- November 21.
What say you? Are you ready for some serious offline support?
Love,
Us

I’m in the Little Rock area, but don’t have the time or energy to lead a group. Being new to all of this I can be a shoulder to cry on and twisted mind to laugh with, but I don’t have my Theducation yet. 😉

i am a professional musician, yoga instructor, life coach.
i also have hashimotos and have every symptom in the book….i take levothyroxine which gives me an immediate headache when i take it. tried synthyroid and everything in between including more alternatives than i care to admit…my doc wants me to have my thyroid removed. my ear nose and throat doc says no. could lose my voice or at least damage…would love to be a part of a meet up. i spend time in michigan and california but travel quite a bit as well. chicago is an option for meet up too…am not very social-not a bar person unless i am performing, too tired to go to most parties……love to connect with others.
thank you.

I am in Asheville NC. Where is the closest support group? I am willing to start one here. Is anyone out there close by?
Catherine,
I am in Asheville too. I just found out about my thyroid issues this week. I would like to participate in a support group.
Did you start a group in Asheville?
Stacey
I live in Asheville NC as well. I would be very interested in being involved in a support group as well.
I am in Asheville as well and am in need of a support group as well! Lets make it happen!
Clicking on the link was not working because I’m semi-computer illiterate and couldn’t get the POP mail to set up. I’m very interested in meeting up with people in Atlanta for offline support. I’ve been living with Graves’ Disease for almost five years and have found virtually no support for the way I’ve chosen to pursue treatment. My email is kat@sudstress.com and am open to individual or organized event invitations.
Thanks!
🙂 kat
When/where are the meetings in Los Angeles? I would love to attend!

I live in the columbus, OH area and would love to get together with others who can understand my frustration with having Hashimoto’s disease. I just had my first child in August of 2009, and the hormone roller coaster I have been on since has been a nightmare due to the disease.
Amber, are there any face-to-face meet-up thyroid groups here in Columbus, OH? I was just told I have low TSH and a high (56) FSH since my hysterectomy back in Sept. 2011. I was told my thyroid may be “overactive”. I NEED a support group bad because I have been freaking out since my BHRT doctor told me this yesterday!

I would love a support group as well. I was diagnosed back in late December. I initially felt better once I was placed on methamazole. My dosage has been switched and it has been a nightmare every since. I’m so tired of feeling tired, having heart palpitations, not sleeping well and not being able to work out like I used to!! This is crazy. Please respond and let me know if you know of a support group here in the Chicagoland area.

Columbus Ohio here as well! Please tell me there is some form of support group in this area – if not, we need to establish a network. There is clearly a need! I have had Hashimotos for 7 years and I can’t say I’ve felt normal in all that time. It would be profoundly wonderful to connect with people who can understand! Please share any details or interest! -Cheryl

hello lovely people, we have regular support and information meetings for thyroid patients in London. All welcome, we work with the British Thyroid Foundation and are committed to providing reliable, good quality information, top speakers and unconditional support. All dates for future meetings in London and the rest of the UK are on the BTF website and I just did a big write up of the last one on my blog. We love our group, it makes such a difference being able to talk to fellow thyroid patients and our speakers so far have been amazing. Sending Love and Light.
