Just how Invisible Is Thyroid Disease and Thyroid Cancer?
Thyroid diseases and thyroid cancers are not on many invisible illness website lists. Here are just a few examples:
CDC The FastStats site provides quick access to statistics on topics of public health importance and is organized alphabetically. Links are provided to publications that include the statistics presented, to sources of more data, and to related web pages.
US Global Health Fast Facts 32MM+ HIV/AIDS, 13MM+ TB, 147,000 Malaria — Thyroid conditions exceed 50MM
Census – We made the list!
Partnership for Solutions – We did not make the list
This is just the tip of the list-iceberg.
We propose continuing with acrostic poems. Every Monday, we will announce a new word. Please write and submit as many poems as you wish. We will publish each and every one. Our goal, is to be on every single invisible illness list by next year. If we have enough poems, enough community involvement, we can circulate a petition.
Just how invisible do we have to be? My own endocrinologist won’t admit that certain dental fillings are endocrine disruptors, among other things. He’s one of the best. Why? Lack of education? Lack of awareness? Not wanting to separate himself from the pack? Not wanting to take responsibility? Whatever the fuck it is – he’s not alone. Sadly, a large percentage of endocrinologists won’t dispense this information. The good ones do.
This week’s WORD for acrostic poetry submission is… SICK. Please write and submit your acrostic poem to Katie@dearthyroid.org.
Please get involved. Please participate in change. Please share this with everyone you know, willing to stand up, write and fight for ACKNOWLEDGMENT of their disease and/or cancer.
