thyroid patient letters, Dear Thyroid, Teens with thyroid disease, Growing up with thyroid disease

Dear Thyroid,

I hate you more than any words can say!  I have had a love/hate relationship with you!  We’ve had an intimate relationship since I was only 16!  Just before my 21st birthday, on January 20, 1993, I had half of you surgically removed!

My only regret is that I neglected to have all of you removed!  My thoracic surgeon asked me if I wanted to have kids and I said yes!  So the only part of you that remains is the left half.  Now, that half has split in two and half of you are underneath my breast bone.  The other half is still up on the left side of my neck!

I hate you because now, I’m low thyroid.  You make it so hard for me to lose weight!  There is a beautiful thin woman inside of me….screaming, wanting, and waiting to live and breathe on the outside of me. And, instead here is the fat version of me.

Now, I have to take a different Synthroid because Armour thyroid medicine has been taken off of the market!  I’m so mad!

(Bio) My name is Lisa Holley. I just turned 36 years-old in March of 2009.  I love to write in my journals on a daily basis! I am a songwriter. Soon, I hope to own my very own record label in Nashville, Tennessee! My favorite journal is “My Letters To My Future Husband” journal…I have been writing in them since 2000 or 2001!  I’m not good at staying within boundaries that other people set for me.
