Exactly who is the Grasshopper?
Your Thyroid here. This is a long overdue goodbye. I know you were probably wondering if you would ever hear from me again and I don’t have any excuse at all for being silent for so long. The only thing that I can say in my defense is that I just wasn’t prepared to be totally removed from your life. The last I heard they were planning on leaving half of me with you. I was as stunned as you were to find out that I had cancer and had to be totally removed from your body. It was quite a shock waking up in that cold steel pan in the hospital; and you don’t even want to know how it felt to get cut up “for research” and tossed out like an old shoe. Anyway, I do want to say sorry for leaving you like that, even though I had no control.
Enough about me! What about you? Did getting rid of me cure your cancer? Is it hell living without a Thyroid? All modesty aside, I am a pretty damn important part of the body and nobody messes with me without consequences. How’s the aftermath? Seriously, I’m sorry I let you down, but I’m thankful that your GP has such good fingers and found those nodes. You didn’t have any symptoms and I was still working just fine. But it would have been just a matter of time before I would have started giving you a lot of trouble. So I hate to admit it, but all things considered you are better off without me. Well just because I’m gone, I won’t forget about you. Give me a shout if you get the chance. I’d like to hear how you’re getting along.
Your absent Thyroid
