Volunteers Needed For a Study on Autoimmune Diseases and Dietary Triggers

Dr. Loren Cordain (author of The Paleo Diet) and his team of graduate students from Colorado State University are conducting a study on the potential dietary triggers of autoimmune illness. In particular they are looking at the effects of a Paleo-style diet and whether any of these effects are common across autoimmune diseases.

You might remember the three-part series we did on the paleo diet last year. The main premise of the paleo diet centers around the idea that the average human body has not yet sufficiently adapted to eating modern foods, especially wheat.

As part of the study, Dr. Cordain would like to conduct confidential interviews with people who have an autoimmune illness and are on or have tried a Paleo-style or wheat-free diet for at least six months. The interview process should take no more than an hour and your answers will be kept confidential and anonymous.

Since many of the DearThyroid community members are already eating a gluten-free diet, chances are you might be eligible to participate in this study. Also, thyroiditis is one of the primary conditions they will be focusing on so the results will be especially pertinent to community members living with a thyroid condition.

If you have been diagnosed with an autoimmune illness and are interested in being interviewed for this study, please contact Trevor Connor, one of the Master’s students working with Dr. Loren Cordain. He can be reached by email at: Trevor.Connor@colostate.edu

Even if you aren’t eligible to participate in the study, please forward this blog post on to friends who have tried a paleo-style diet and have an autoimmune disorder. Urge them to contact Dr. Cordain and his team, as the results of this research could potentially help a lot of people.
