Comment Of The Day: September 1, 2010
What if we all united our efforts? What if we all came together with one voice to invoke change on behalf of thyroid disease/cancer patients? What if we all took action for our cause? What if we did something? The results would be exponential.
Yes, it’s Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. Yes, we’ve been talking about awareness A LOT lately. NO, we aren’t going to stop.
When we all come together, we can make change happen. When we do something, even if it’s seemingly small, we can make a big difference. We can and we will.
Keep submitting Dear Thyroid letters. Request your free awareness bands. Wear your disease on your sleeve. Participate in thyroid cancer awareness month. Keep making a difference.
THANK YOU for being such a wonderful community!!
Love,
Joanna

Stick Me In A Grave At 18? I Don’t Think So! – Today’s Dear Thyroid author wrote a stunning piece about her journey with Graves’s disease while in college. College.
Excerpt: “You ruined my freshman year. It‘s supposed to be spent meeting new people, going to class and going to parties. Not for me, I was constantly in the hospital, getting blood tests or running to the ER because my heart was beating uncontrollably. I couldn’t sleep or study.”

Thank you Amanda!
Good luck with your fight as well. It means a lot to have to love and support of strangers, yet I feel so close to you all because I know we all find that rare common denominator. If I can do this, so can you, and so can everyone else.
Love, and Crazy Thyroids,
Lauren

Chronic Snarkopolist: Sometimes Sick Is Too Ugly – BRILLIANT, PAINFUL, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO READ AND SIMULTANEOULSY LOOK AWAY. You must read Melissa’s post. We all want to be – normal –
Excerpt: “Sick sucks and right now I AM ANGRY ABOUT IT. So angry that last week I could only give you a fucking book review because my words were not pretty enough for print. I HAVE NO PRETTY WORDS FOR YOU. Some times sickness is so ugly and angry and fearful – this is all I can produce.”

OMG, Melissa, is it something in the air? A few hours ago I sent Katie an email venting with similar feelings and thoughts. I very seldom curse or send stuff that is RAW and uncensored, but I did this time.
I love you, your words, and your realism. Your words keep me upright and sane.
Thank you, thank you, thank you (bowing after each)

Thyroid Queen Contest Entry by Linny – Absolutely beautiful, in poetry, Linny took us on a journey of her image of illness. Please check it out and cast your vote in comments.
Excerpt:
“A space exists between us
I cannot get to her, or she to me.
this portrait of my former self.
I am unclear,
look over her shoulder
see, there I am.”
