New Awesome Contest with one of our Favorite Organizations, I HEART GUTS
IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES
I Heart Guts is one of our favorite organizations. They’re near and dear to our hearts for so many reasons. To begin with, they make plushie organs and have a unique and inspiring approach to offering support and building community. You name the organ and IHG makes it – livers and lungs, bladders and brains, and thyroids and parathyroids!
CONTEST: Acrostic poetry using the word, THYROID. In 7 words, describe what you’ve endured, how you have changed or how you imagine your life to be. Enter your poems in comments on this post. The contest will close at midnight/PST November 12, 2012. On November 13, 2012, we will post the top 3 entries. The entry with the most votes will be announced on November 19, 2012.
WINNER: The winner will receive a thyroid plushie toy delivered to their address. We will connect you with the great folks at I Heart Guts and you will provide them with your “Best” mailing address, so they can send you your thyroid!
When does the contest begin? NOW. Right now!
Enter your Thyroid Acrostic Poem. Be sure to share this with fellow community members.
Good luck!

Tired, jaded, wasted body
Hemoglobin drop, sanguine fluid gone
Yo-yo emotions, crotchety.. not due to age!
Rough, brambly hair.. brittle nails
Oversized, bulky, butterball, I have known it all
Incomplete, insufficient, deficient iodine.. making me
sleepless (not in Seattle)
Depressed, abject, blues, dispirited.. emotions which have become cohorts
These are all so great! Shelley you have me nodding along and chuckling. Love the (not in Seattle) part. 🙂

Hello Sam
Well written and ‘hitting on the head’ poem!
Whoops, had my “I” in the wrong place. Believe me, I can spell thyroid!
This is about my journey having Hashimoto’s, Hypothyroidism, a cancer scare, and now surgery.
Lifeless.
Stayed Hopeful.
And Now I’m Free.
This about learning that I had Graves’ disease two months after I gave birth to my son at 23
Confused, upset and scared
Felt alone and as if no one cared
Too young and in denial
I just had a baby, why couldn’t this of waited for a while
No friends, siblings or lover could understand
They google and tell me what I should “withstand”
I fight myself on the daily
With my mind, with my health, all while holding my baby
I will fight, I will be strong
Because I deserve to live, I deserve to belong
